ION Glasgow May 2025 Meeting Summary

Thank you to all who attended our May meeting! We think it went well, and are looking forward continuing the discussions that took place.

We started with a summary of last month’s meeting, speaking specifically to the need for digital infrastructure within these networks. We have a working group for this in which we’re developing a research and design document. If you want to get involved, get in touch via email or instagram, or join the forum discussion.
We then went around the room and shared all the projects we were each involved with, which we’ve made a list of in this project spreadsheet. This is a standing item on the agenda and an opportunity for people to share any local projects they’re involved in, describe the work being done and what support is needed, and let people know how to get plugged in. If you have projects or events you’d like to talk about, please come to any of our open meetings, or get in touch with us directly and we’d be happy to announce them!
The back half of the meeting was focused on a discussion about (anti)fascism in Glasgow and throughout Scotland. There was a talk about the main local players and groups (that we know about), outlined in this overview document, and then we had a broader discussion around tactics and strategies for organising against fascism, emerging from a summary of this zine about autonomous antifascist organising. We then briefly discussed next steps, and decided there was an appetite for followup meetings around specific antifascist themes or projects – for example, organising around asylum hotels, tackling transphobia, or setting up an antifascist comms network. If you have ideas for what more of these followup meetings should be about, and want to collaborate on organising them, please get in touch!

We want ION to be a self-organised project! We could always use more people to help with the basic work of making sure these meetings continue to happen - venue hiring, general outreach, comms, etc. Many hands make light work. Additionally, if you have ideas about other things ION could be doing, we'd love to hear them - and help you make them happen!
