TAKE ACTION! STAND UP FOR FREE SPEECH

JOIN US ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 10TH AT 5:00 PM:

Stand up for your right to speak out in Spokane!

Yesterday we shared that two members of the Spokane City Council were forwarding a SPD proposal to use 88K of our city’s funds to purchase two military-grade sound weapons (long-range acoustic devices, aka “sonic cannons,”) to use as “pre-escalation” crowd-control devices!

The only opportunity to provide public comment was initially during the “consent agenda” portion of the October 27 city council meeting, rather than having a defined item on the council’s agenda. Thankfully, due to alert citizens, the issue was brought to our attention and postponed until the November 10 city council meeting.

You may recall from our earlier message that long-range acoustic devices (LRADs), when deployed for crowd control, emit loud, painful and even dangerous levels of noise, which can lead to serious health issues (potentially including permanent hearing loss) in individuals exposed to them.

As if this wasn’t bad enough, these weapons are manufactured by Genasys, which also supplies Israel's unlawful and genocidal campaign against Palestinians!

Our city council should not be using our money to support weapons manufacturers that are complicit in genocide, nor should they be turning hazardous weapons on Spokane area residents in order to prevent us from engaging in free speech!

STAND UP BY TAKING THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS!

  1. Contact your city council member(s) using this template. Find your city council member(s) and their contact information here. You can use the contact form or their email addresses to contact them.

  2. Attend the protest and city council meeting on Monday, November 10, when this issue will be put on the agenda.

    1. PROTEST BEGINS AT 5PM OUTSIDE OF CITY HALL, CITY COUNCIL MEETING BEGINS AT 6PM.

    2. If you are able, provide public comment! We will send out more information on how to sign up for public comment later this week.

You are welcome to share/print/post this graphic…PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD, AND WE HOPE TO SEE YOU ON MONDAY!
