WE WILL NOT BE INTIMIDATED INTO SILENCE WHILE BEING DENIED OUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS

Spokane City Council Members Betsy Wilkerson and Zack Zappone have put forward a proposal to allocate 88K for the SPD to purchase two military-grade sound weapons (long-range acoustic devices, aka “sonic cannons,”) to use as “pre-escalation” crowd-control devices!

Long-range acoustic devices (LRADs) are among the weapons that were deployed at Standing Rock. Although originally deployed to aid in emergency alerts and evacuations, when used for crowd control, LRADS are designed to emit loud, painful and even dangerous levels of noise, which can lead to serious health issues (potentially including permanent hearing loss) in individuals exposed to them.

Our elected officials are poised to use city funds to subject members of the public to draconian punishment and grievous injury for daring to exercise constitutionally- guaranteed rights to freedom of assembly and speech!

Adding insult to injury, these weapons are manufactured by Genasys, a military/police contractor on the BDS boycott short-list.

FOR NOW, PLEASE PLAN TO JOIN US IN PROTEST OUTSIDE CITY HALL ON MONDAY FROM 5:00 TO 6:00, after which as many of us as can get into Council Chambers will EXPRESS OUR OUTRAGE AT THIS EGREGIOUS ATTACK ON OUR MOST BASIC RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS.
