Well, well, well. Nothing like
a hungry old bear in the Great Alaskan Wilderness to make all of our friends and fellow newsletter authors suddenly take an active interest in IMPORTANT BEAR NEWS. [
We see you, Rusty. We see you.] That
said, said hungry, plastic-preferring bear is as good of a reason as any to publish another issue of IMPORTANT BEAR NEWS, especially since the IMPORTANT BEAR NEWS cave is especially full of bears at the current moment.
Call it autumn, or something.
Blame New Jersey. Thank you for leaving our kayak alone. Now get away from that kayak. Come here. Stop it, readers. Readers. Readers. You're breaking it. You're breaking our kayak. Why are you doing that? What are we going to do? Stop that, readers. R E A D E R S. Please stop. Please follow us
@ImportBearNews. Please. It's the end of September. Why are you here? You're supposed to be asleep. Please stop breaking our things. [Special shoutout to our Detroit IMPORTANT BEAR NEWS correspondent,
J. Carlisle Larsen, for all her regular Canadian bear updates. And extra special thanks to the fine folks at
TinyLetter HQ for highlighting IMPORTANT BEAR NEWS.]

Kodiak bear [ursos actos middendorffi], variety of grizzly bear found on Kodiak Island, off the coast of Alaska.
The Kodiak bear is the largest living land carnivore and may attain a length of more than 3 metres and a weight of 780 kg.
food: Omnivorous animals, grizzlies feed on berries, plant roots and shoots, small mammals, fish, calves of many hoofed animals, and carrion. Food is often cached in shallow holes, and grizzlies dig readily and vigorously in search of rodents.
habitat: the Kodiak Island lies in the Gulf of Alaska and is separated from the Alaska Peninsula by Shelikof Strait, 30 miles (50 km) off the Alaskan coast and some 250 miles (400 km) southwest of Anchorage. Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge, established in 1941, covers some two-thirds of the island and is the habitat of the Kodiak, or Alaskan, brown bear, the largest form of grizzly bear; some 3,000 Kodiak bears inhabit the island.
