Woolly bear [Pyrrharctia isabella], caterpillar of the tiger moth. The larva of the moth is brown in the middle and black at both ends. The width of the black bands is purported to predict the severity of the coming winter: the narrower the bands, the milder the weather will be.
food: The woolly bear moth is known as a generalist in diet terms, consuming a wide range of herbs and flowering plants.
habitat: The developed Tiger Moth is known to reside in North America and northern Europe. Better suited to colder climates, in Arctic regions the woolly bear is known to stay in caterpillar form for up to 14 winters before becoming a moth.
