You BEAR NEWS hounds are nothing if not opinionated, are you? Even though there is C L E A R public acceptance of last issue's BEAR subject liner, the
Bernese Mountain Dog, as a kind of colloquial and honorary bear, not one, not two but MANY of you wrote in with complaints. "This is not a bear," some said. "Honestly, why are you doing this anymore" others wrote (we'll leave the grammatical fallacy of the misplaced question mark aside in this instance, although you know who you are, dear reader. Or do you.) We here at IMPORTANT BEAR NEWS are all about bears -- in whatever form they might take in the future. Are
koala bears technically bears? No! Are
pandas? OBVIOUSLY not. What about the
binturong? Definitely NOT. And yet, none of you thought to write in with complaints
then. We're about expanding, not limiting your horizons here at IMPORTANT BEAR NEWS. Open up your hearts and let some IMPORTANT BEARS in. TO THE BEARS.

Care bear [ursus diligentia], species of animated, multi-colored bears. They are divided into more than 50 sub-species based on emotions, feelings or states of being. Often considered as a kind of "20th Century update" to the traditional guardian angel concept of years prior, the bears guard children and keep them safe from frightening, unpleasant things. Each bear features a neon-bright body fur, white tummy and an individualized tummy symbol, or "belly badge" that corresponds to the bear's respective feeling or emotion. The most powerful Care Bear ability is the Care Bear Stare, in which several bears assemble together and beam out a powerful, caring rainbow of light into the world.
food: While the Care Bears are known to consume traditional human food -- including the greedy Messy Bear subspecies -- they also consume fear, pain and unpleasant emotions that affect the children they care for.
habitat: Care Bears are traditionally found in the magical Kingdom of Caring, which includes Care-A-Lot and the Forest of Feelings. Care Bears also can be found in the bedrooms and closets of human youths on Earth, and often, in bags of discarded childhood memorabilia they should really sort through the next time they're home and throw out before their parents sell the old house this year.
