Happy (Delayed) Presidents' Day, dear readers! (In a dream world, this note was going to go out sometime during the general American Federal holiday and fill your day with bears on bears on bears, but a series of happenings and work-related activities and important dog photo sessions interrupted those noble IMPORTANT BEAR plans. Alas.) You might be generally aware of the ongoing campaign for President in these United States of America, but never fear, friends -- this newsletter will
not be veering into political pontification and posturing. That is unless, of course, one of the many (increasingly fewer) candidates makes some kind of pro- or anti-BEAR policy statement. AND EVEN THEN, do not expect an IMPORTANT BEAR NEWS endorsement. Rather, we will, as is our wont, note said political remark with either joy or dismay (yes, we're talking about
you, Florida), and head along our way forward to the bears. Who will win the all-important and often-ignored BEAR vote? That remains to be said. That said -- TO THE BEARS.

Bernese Mountain Dog [Berner Sennenhund], breed of Swiss working dog taken to Switzerland over 2,000 years ago by invading Romans. The breed was widely used in Switzerland to pull carts and to drive cattle to and from their pastures. The Bernese mountain dog is noted for its hardiness. It has a broad chest, hanging, V-shaped ears, and a long, silky, black coat with rust-coloured spots on the chest and forelegs and over the eyes and white on the chest, nose, tail tip, and, sometimes, the feet.
food: Meat, treats, cuddles and assorted dog food items. Also, sadness, for when a Berner enters your home /
place of work, all sadness will ~vanish~, immediately.
habitat: Beyond their native home of Switzerland and the Alps, Bernese mountain dogs are found in discerning dog-owning homes and locations. Also, on blessed occasion, in
places of public radio work.
