IMPORTANT BEAR NEWS, VOLUME 19: [Abominable Snowman | Nee-gued]

IBNWe don't want to go out on any weather-related proverbial limbs here, dear IMPORTANT BEAR NEWS consumers, but seeing as quite a few of you appear to live along the Eastern American Seaboard / in the Greater Washington, D.C. Area / somewhere in the Bos-Wash Acela Corridor, we're definitely inclined to suggest you make like a bear and hibernate this weekend. [Fun surprising facts: bears don't hibernate as much as you probably originally thought / grew up imagining. Who knew? The International Exotic Animal Sanctuary, that's who.] While snow predictions are often grossly exaggerated and the weekend-long cancellation of all DC-area transit service and New York City-based Saturday evening driving is perhaps an extreme touch, we'd remind you all that the bears, no matter how slow or inactive they might be in the winter months, have the right kind of idea when they grab a pile of provisions, curl up with their loved ones and nap like hell. We may not know if you have any loved ones nearby or are perhaps currently on some kind of food-purge that involves not eating anything, but we can guarantee that you'll one heaping pile of IMPORTANT BEAR NEWS to help you through the winter weather, whatever the weather may be. A big shoutout to our newest subscribers (both voluntary and non), and to Boston-based BEAR NEWS correspondent Katherine Brewer who somehow discovered a bizarre collection of archival German tourist photos with actors in bear costumes. To the bears!

BearAbominable Snowman [Nee-gued], mythical monster supposed to inhabit the Himalayas at about the level of the snow line. Though reports of actual sightings of such a creature are rare, certain mysterious markings in the snow have traditionally been attributed to it. Those not caused by lumps of snow or stones falling from higher regions and bouncing across the lower slopes have probably been produced by bears.

food: Secrets, dreams and dark unspoken truths. Also, Crisco™, wayward snowtires and occasionally Pizza-Flavored Pringles.

habitat: While the Himalayan snow line in Tibet has traditionally been known as the lowest border for the yeti, yetis have also been spotted in urban areas of the metropolitan United States of America, where they help clean streets, guide drivers and spread seasonal joy wherever appropriate.
