China’s new AI is still capitalist
Using a hedge fund to create AI is still deeply capitalist
The new AI released today from China is causing some people who do not know much about Marxism to proclaim that Chinese Marxist-Leninism owns the future. Nothing could be further than the truth. If China were ever socialist, it was before Mao and Nixon had their romance and long before Deng Xiao Peng’s economic policy changes to make the Chinese state better fit in with global trade.
What generated the Deepseek Ai may be nominally communist in the sense that a Chinese government governed by a political party claiming to be communist has helped it to exist. But the deepseek organization is a hedge fund. The ai it has produced still costs money to create and to use. And the technology will still eventually be sold to the highest bidders of capitalism. Regardless of other statements, China is engaged in a trade war with the United States. They are not doing the work of actual communism in so far as currency is not being abolished. There is no regard for Marx’s Critique of the Gotha Programme or its cautions against the ideas of socialism being co-opted and turned into propaganda to increase the efficiency of capital.
For now, just like the US claims the philosophy of democracy to justify its policy, the capitalist Chinese state will claim the philosophies of Lenin and Mao and Stalin and to a much lesser extent Marx. But neither state will entertain critiques of their practices of these philosophies. Each state will interpret their chosen philosophy in any direction required to justify their involvement in anti democratic capitalist treachery against indigenous and poor people as well as the eco system globally.
