Quick updates on sim racing events worth joining and watching.

NZ Sim Racing

  • Antal Sabo leads NZ Toyota 86 E-Cup (NZTEC). With 6 wins from 6 races, including 2 races with reverse top 10 starts, Sabo is well on his way to earning the Toyota 86 test day. It’s been frantic racing in the iRacing series but so far Sabo has been a cut above.

  • Matthew McEwen goes from sim to real. After winning NZERS in 2024 McEwen earned a test in a Toyota 86 race car. He’s recently successfully completed that test day and now wants more.

  • Enduro for Mental Health. The annual charity fundraiser race is back in 2025 and set to take place June 14th. The race will be a 5 hour team enduro on iRacing with donations open throughout the event.

  • New E-Blacks Website. Esports NZ have launched a new website for the New Zealand esports team, known as the E Blacks. The site features the active roster which includes two NZ sim racing representatives, Matthew McEwen and Sasha Death who qualified last year.

  • Ferrari Esports Cup back for 2025. The competition kicks off June 2nd across AC, ACC, and iRacing.
    Last year a couple of kiwis made the regional finals but neither could progress to the world finals which were hosted at Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi.

  • No Esports WRC in 2025. EA have cancelled all development on EA Sport WRC just 2 years into their 5 year WRC licensing deal. This means the pending Esports WRC that was teased for so long will not be coming and presumable WRC are after a new team to take over the license.
