June Motorsport News đź“°

This months sim racing news from NZ and beyond.

NZ Sim Racing

  • NZ Esports Hyperfiber League (NZEHL) iRacing postponed. After attracting only 14 entries the series has been quietly postponed with no further details given about future plans at this stage.

  • William McDonald wins X-Golf/Racing Sims competition. The time trial competition was in the Porsche 992 around Bathurst on iRacing and it was a closely fought thing.

    • William McDonald: 2:04.504 - $900

    • James Hogan: +0.178 - $450

    • Robert Northway: +0.035 - $150

    • Full results on facebook.

  • June X-Golf/Racings Sims Competition. For Christchurch locals. With the May competition considered a success they’re back for another round with a slightly reduced $1,000 prize pool and the same $20 entry fee. More details on Facebook.

  • Mega Esports Silverstone 6 hour on ACC. After the rumours in May we now have an official announcement. With backing from the people behind the Nazcar & Mega Street real racing series/events the organisers are hoping this event is just the start of something bigger. See more and join through Facebook & Discord.

  • NZ Esports Racing Series (NZERS) back for 2024. Last year saw the top 10 Gran Turismo drivers descend on Respawn Esports Center fighting for a Radical drive at Highlands Motorsport Park + more. This years series is still in the planning stage so expect updates in future editions of Hectic News.

  • Motorsport NZ (MSNZ) fumbles free iRacing licenses. The FIA have announced a partnership with iRacing which includes free iRacing subscriptions being passed out through member clubs. You can’t get one from MSNZ however with the only apparent reason being their incompetence. MSNZ, even with a member on the FIA Esports Commission, continues to struggle with everything esports. I’ve been in communication with MSNZ about the program since March without any progress.

News

  • $25,000 prize pool for FIA F4 Global Championship. The top 10 drivers from each of the formula regional series (during iRacing 2024 season 3, starting mid June) will qualify for the F4 Global Championship in September/October where they will race on stream for a share of the $25,000 prize pool.

  • Go from iRacing to Formula Race Series. The latest big prize in iRacing comes courtesy of Skip Barber Racing School with prizes worth $500,000. The 5 week series cost $20 a week to enter with the top 3 at the end getting three days of racing school where the top driver gets a full season drive in the Skip Barber Formula Race Series.

  • Traxion.GG is back. Back in January we reported Traxion closing as part of the Motorsport Games drama but now it’s back, with many of the original staff, under new owners Grid Finder.

Extras

  • Steam Next Fest to feature a number of racing games. The “celebration of upcoming games” Steam Next Fest will see a number of new livestreams and demos, some of which are already available. I’ve listed a few of the most promising racing games
