Weekly Roundup Vol. 6
Working through the Plot Forest
Welcome to this week’s roundup! It was a reasonably quiet week, a birthday in the family and other little things going on… So, it’s a short one.
In terms of writing this week, along with reflecting on the real start of my self-published universe of books, I’ve been working more on the same short story I’ve been going on about, writing about travelling from the villa to what is now Bicester and then on to St Albans. It’s been fascinating to learn more about those sites online and in books.
The St Albans museum has so many resources online which are very helpful - a virtual tour, a look at all their artefacts, all little details I can add to try and make the snapshot views of my gem-journey story as real as possible. Little ideas spring up, to tie to mythology when I know there was a shop making bronze figures, or little story opportunities when I know there was a jewellers - would the travelling trader bring the crystal there? Or there’s connections like the earth banks surrounding a circle of a Roman theatre, how it’s basically the same shape as henges thousands of years before.
I also attended the Escape the Plot Forest Summit - I’ve linked it although the free access to the event is over. The next summit is coming in March. I attended another of Daniel’s summits earlier this year, and although I don’t attend everything live, there’s always so much free information and many downloadable resources for writers up to 24hrs after, so I’ve been making the most of playing back the talks, grabbing some PDFs and joining some mailing lists.
This week’s books
This segment showcases the new additions to my research and fiction collections. However, this week, I didn’t get any! I’m writing this on Saturday as today (tomorrow for me), I’m at MCM Comic Con, hopefully meeting authors, comic artists, and getting many books. So, yeah, the most exciting thing happening this week will be on next week’s roundup. Look forward to that!
Thanks for reading! Let me know how your week went, if you feel like it.
Cheers,
Harvey
