Why Writing Online Feels Hard (and Why I Still Do It Anyway)
If writing online feels awkward for you too… same here.
Hey friend,
Let me just say this upfront:
Writing online is weird.
You’re basically typing your thoughts into a blank box and hoping someone, somewhere, cares enough to read it. No facial reactions. No small nods. No “oh that makes sense.” Just… silence.
And honestly? That silence used to mess with me.
Whenever I wanted to share something - an idea, a lesson, even a simple story - it felt like I was dragging my thoughts out of my head and into a room where everyone had already left.😅
But here’s what changed the game for me:
I stopped trying to “sound smart.”
I just started writing the way I’d talk to one person.
Not the whole internet - one person.
And suddenly, it didn’t feel like shouting anymore.
It felt like sending a message to someone who actually gets me.
When I write now, I imagine I’m talking to that one reader who’s figuring things out just like me - someone who appreciates honesty more than perfection.
Here’s the part most people don’t talk about:
Writing online isn’t about having “big” ideas.
It’s about having true ones.
The kind of ideas you can say out loud without feeling like you’re performing.
So if you’ve ever felt awkward putting your thoughts out there, I get it.
I still feel like that sometimes.
But here’s why I haven’t stopped:
Every time someone replies with,
“Wow, I needed this,”
or
“This is exactly how I feel,”
I’m reminded that people don’t connect with polish - they connect with honesty.
And honestly?
That’s enough reason for me to keep writing.
Talk soon,
Susan
