Posting content vs building trust
A lot of people post every day… but trust grows much slower.
The difference between posting content and building trust
Hey Friend,👋
One thing I’ve been thinking about lately is this:
Posting content and building trust are not the same thing.
At first they look similar.
You share posts.
You give advice.
You talk about what you’re learning.
You stay consistent.
From the outside, it looks like progress.
But over time you start noticing something interesting.
Some people post for years and nothing really changes.
While others post for a shorter time and suddenly people start:
• replying to their posts
• asking them questions
• trusting their recommendations
The difference is not usually how often they post.
It’s whether their content builds trust or just fills space.
And I’m learning this myself.
Posting content is about activity
Posting content is simple.
You write something.
You share an idea.
You give tips.
It keeps your page active.
But activity alone doesn’t always change how people see you.
Sometimes it just becomes noise in the timeline.
People read it…
maybe they like it…
then they move on.
Nothing sticks.
Building trust is about credibility
Trust grows differently.
It grows when people start believing:
“This person actually understands what they’re talking about.”
Not because you said it…
but because your content shows it over time.
Trust usually builds when people see:
• your thinking process
• the lessons you’re learning
• real observations
• practical ideas they can use
Not just polished advice.
Real thinking.
A simple framework I’m learning: The TRUST method
When I write something now, I try to check if it has at least one of these elements.
T - Truth
Say something honest that people recognize immediately.
Something like:
“Learning a new skill will mess with your confidence.”
When people feel “that’s true”, trust starts forming.
R - Real examples
Ideas become stronger when they’re connected to something real.
Instead of only saying “consistency matters”, show what consistency looks like.
Real examples help people see the idea clearly.
U - Useful insight
A good piece of content should give readers something they can apply or think about.
Not just inspiration.
Something that changes how they approach a problem.
Even a small shift in thinking is valuable.
S - Simplicity
If people need to reread something three times to understand it, they’ll usually skip it.
Clear thinking builds trust.
Simple explanations show that you actually understand the topic.
T - Time
This is the one people underestimate.
Trust doesn’t build from one post.
It builds when people repeatedly see:
“This person shares thoughtful things.”
Over time, your voice becomes familiar.
And familiarity builds credibility.
The shift I’m trying to make
Instead of asking:
“What should I post today?”
I’m starting to ask:
“What useful idea can I leave someone with today?”
That small shift changes how you write.
You stop chasing content.
You start sharing thinking.
And slowly, trust begins to grow.
I’m still learning this myself, but it’s something I’m becoming more intentional about.
Maybe it’s something you can experiment with too.
Till next week,
Susan 💚
