Confidence isn’t built the way people say it is.
It usually starts much smaller than we admit.
Hey friend,
People talk about confidence like it’s something you wake up with one day.
But from what I’ve seen (and lived), confidence is quieter than that.
It’s not loud belief.
It’s not “fake it till you make it.”
And it’s definitely not feeling ready.
Confidence usually shows up after you’ve already started - not before.
Here’s what I mean.
Most times, when I feel “confident” about something, it’s not because I suddenly trusted myself more.
It’s because I’ve done the thing enough times to know:
I can figure it out
I can recover if it goes wrong
I won’t fall apart if I’m not perfect
That’s it.
Confidence grows when you collect small evidence.
You send the email - even when you’re unsure.
You try the new skill - even while Googling basics.
You speak up - even if your voice shakes a bit.
And slowly, your brain updates its story from
“I don’t know if I can do this”
to
“I’ve handled worse before.”
That shift matters more than motivation ever will.
So if you’re waiting to feel confident before you act, you might be waiting too long.
Sometimes the real work is just doing the next reasonable thing - and letting confidence catch up later.
That’s how it’s been for me.
Quiet. Messy. Very unglamorous.
But real.
Till next time,
Susan 💛
