Before This Year Ends, Read This
Before you rush into next year, read this.
Hey Friend,
Since today is the last day of the year, I don’t want to do the usual “new year, new goals” thing.
Not because goals are bad - but because most people are already tired.
This year stretched a lot of us in quiet ways.
Not always with big, dramatic moments - but with small, ongoing pressure.
So instead of hype, I want to leave you with something calmer. Something you can actually use as the year closes.
Let’s talk honestly about this year
Some things probably worked. Some things definitely didn’t. And some things… you’re still not sure how to feel about.
That doesn’t mean you failed. It means you were present.
A lot of growth doesn’t look impressive in real time.
It looks like confusion, adjustment, second-guessing, and trying again without applause.
One thing this year taught me (and maybe you too)
Most of us weren’t stuck because we didn’t try.
We were stuck because:
we were unclear, not lazy
overwhelmed, not incapable
learning something new, not “behind”
That distinction matters.
When you stop blaming yourself, you start solving better problems.
Before you rush into next year, pause here
Instead of asking:
“What did I achieve?”
Try asking:
What did I understand this year that I didn’t before?
What am I less confused about now?
What kind of pressure do I no longer accept?
These answers shape better decisions than goals ever will.
A simple way to close the year (no journaling pressure)
If you do nothing else today, do this:
Write down:
One thing you’re proud you didn’t quit
One thing you’re okay letting go of
One thing you want to understand better next year (not master - just understand)
That’s enough.
You don’t need a perfect plan. You need clarity and room to grow into it.
What Growth Note will be about going forward
I’m not here to motivate you. I’m here to help you think clearer.
So next year, Growth Note will continue to be:
honest
practical
grounded in real experiences
focused on helping you move forward without pressure
Not louder. Just clearer.
Before I sign off…
If this year felt messy, unfinished, or slower than expected - that doesn’t disqualify you from progress.
Sometimes the work of a year is simply becoming ready.
Thank you for being here. Thank you for reading. Thank you for thinking alongside me.
We’ll take next year one clear step at a time.
Happy New Year,
Susan
