This newsletter comes a bit late for a good reason which is the release of the much awaited update of the 2019 GreenIT.fr study on the global environmental footprint of IT (see below). A study in which Frédéric Bordage, our guest this month, played a significant part. Frédéric is widely ackowledged as one of the spearheads of Green IT in France and beyond for the last … 20 years! He was actually the founder of the GreenIT.fr initiative back in 2024. Today he advocates for a more radical approach than just greening high-tech: embracing Slow.tech.

Yet as I sat down on my plane to Singapore for the Green IO conference on 18 April, I had my doubts about whether spending so much energy (carbon, physical, emotional) would actually benefit anyone. So was it worth testing my physical and mental limits, and using up precious planetary resources? The resounding answer is yes!

The rainy season is slowly leaving us here in Réunion Island and the cyclones should hopefully give us a break until next year, our house is getting refurbished (slowly), and the podcast roster is filled until June. What better time to launch the first edition of the Green IO newsletter?
