Welcome back to today’s Music Monday taking a look at some of the new music that is dropping this week.

🏰 Edinburgh trio Young Fathers have announced their biggest Scottish headline show to date at Stirling City Park on Saturday 29 June.. TenementTV has the details.

🎵 Huge congratulations to the acts who have all made it as finalists for the potentially career changing BBC Music introducing in Scotland series. Bottle Rockets, Quiet Houses, Bee Asha and Majesty Palm, will now each compete to see who is crowned the overall winner. Audiences can tune in on BBC Radio Scotland this Friday, March 29 between 8pm – 10pm.

🎙Season 2 of the Good Stuff In Between podcast continues with LUSA - the new project from Niteworks’ synth player and producer Innes Strachan who released his first single ‘Probably’ on Friday. 🇰🇷 David Skimming, aka Lunar Isles, has been in the headlines following the releases of his new single ‘Dissolve’ last month, which The Korea Times described as a perfect example of "his surf-tinged bedroom pop" style in an extended feature on the Scot who swapped Glasgow for Seoul a decade ago. A new album, ‘Parasol’ is slated to drop later this year in June, his since his 2021 debut LP, ‘Tides’.

🎻 Glasgow-based multi-instrumentalist Samantha Maya releases her latest single The Observer Effect pt. II, under the moniker Maya’s Radio Orchestra this Friday, 29 March 2024. But this one has a twist, being a personal exploration of Maya’s creative process and experience with chronic illness after she was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) as a teenager. Having caught the attention from BBC Radio Scotland, BBC Radio 3 and delivering well received performances at the likes of Celtic Connections, AMPLIFI and Sofar Sounds her single draws together classical and alt-folk elements. It was composed entirely on the violin in her Glasgow flat, where she performed, recorded, mixed and mastered the track herself.

More than 300 musicians and participants took part in what was the third annual Govan Music Festival. Over its four days from 13th - 16th March the event saw 1000 people passing through the doors across its venues.

🤠 Husband and wife duo Raintown have announced the release of their third studio album Acoustic Heart out next month. Claire McArthur Bain on vocals and Paul Bain on vocals and guitar bring their brand of contemporary Scottish country music blends Celtic, Country and acoustic elements. The album introduces nine new compositions alongside reimagined versions of Raintown’s previous songs such as Writing on the Wall and Light the Fuse Up. Recorded at The Audio Lounge in Glasgow it was produced by Stevie Lawrence and mastered by Scott Wood at Oak Ridge Studio. The album will be available to stream and download from Friday 26 April 2024.

🎹 Glasgow-based duo Charlie Grey and Joseph Peach have announced their fifth collaborative album A Breaking Sky, released on Friday 26 April 2024. Recorded live at Ardkinglas House on the shores of Loch Fyne in Argyll, renowned for its acoustics and vintage pianos, lending they say an intimate and spontaneous quality to the music, further enhanced by the analogue mixing process overseen by co-producer Mattie Foulds. The first single, A' Mirean San Adhar is out on Friday 12 April.

🎼 Sophie Joint has released her beautiful new album Light On Water into the world. Recorded with Keith Morrison at @weestudio, he described her in a post from the studio’s facebook page as being ‘One of the best musicians I’ve ever worked with’. Scott C Park joined Keith in the mix and mastering. Sophie was introduced to trad music through RCS Juniors, played in her band Harbour Road, and was previously finalist for BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician 2022. Recently piano playing Sophie made the headlines for another reason.

🎵 And finally …. Edinburgh-based singer songwriter Ruariadh Rattray-Cruickshank also makes into the round-up thanks to a tip online from Hospital Corner who flagged their debut album Hope and Hunger which came out on Friday, describing them as being “unbelievably talented”. Watch out for Hospital Corner’s new EP and launch show Speaking New Languages on 12 April at Edinburgh’s Voodoo Rooms.
