Good Shepherd Weekly 8/28

No Bible Study Sept 8

There will be no morning Bible Study on Sunday, September 8. A new Bible Series will be starting at 9am on Sunday, September 15. See more info below.

Welcome Home

On Sunday, September 8 at 10am we will celebrate Welcome Home Sunday. After service the celebration will continue around a meal together. The church is not just a place but it is a gathering of people around God’s Word and Sacraments. We will be celebrating all the gifts God gives through this gathering of people. This gathering is intended to be like a well at which an individual can receive refreshment. It is supposed to be a gathering that one returns to after a hard week in order to receive comfort. It should be a gathering that gives us the right direction in a world full of options. In short, God wants the church to be like home. We want to pack the house, the goal is to have 100% of our members in worship that day. Please, set aside that date and join your brothers and sisters in Christ!

Ladies Dinner

All Ladies are invited to dinner on Wednesday 9/4 at Jessica Kegler’s house. Hors d'oeuvres begin at 6PM with dinner being served at 7PM. Please bring a photo of your favorite summer memory to share. You will also hear important events and church activities planned this year. Please let Jessica Kegler know if you can attend. If you are interested in car-pooling from church please speak with Sarah Goetzinger.

Sight & Sound Theater: Daniel Coming to Patriot Place

On Sunday, September 1 at 2pm a showing of Daniel produced by Sight & Sound Theater will take place at Patriot Place. From the fiery furnace to the infamous den of lions, this one of a kind theatrical event places you on a stage for every spectacular moment of Daniel’s story. As royal pressures mount, will his trust in God remain steadfast through every test of faith? Some from Good Shepherd will be attending this showing. If you are interested in attending you can find tickets at DanielEvent.com. If you have any questions please speak to Debbie Giovinazzo.

New Bible Study: Commissioned for a Mission

In Acts 1 Jesus said to his disciples, “You will be my witnesses.” The disciples were commissioned to be something That being would inform their doing. They were commissioned for a mission. This commissioning has been given to us today. Through our study of Acts, we will see that we have been commissioned to be witnesses. We are witnesses now. We don’t cease being witnesses—we have a commission. This commission helps us carry out the task of witnessing as we share the message of the risen Jesus and his saving work.

Sunday 9am Bible Study

Misquoted

"I can do all things." "The truth will set you free." "I know the plans I have for you." All of these are quotations from Scripture. All of these are quoted by people with good intentions. However, very often they are quoted out of context and as a result misapplied. What can result is confusion, misunderstanding, and even worse false hope. In this Bible study we will look at some of the most quoted Bible passages and put them back into proper context so that we can grow in understanding, appreciation, and hope.

Upcoming Sunday

Join us for our seven-week sermon series, "Psalms of Summer," starting on July 21. The book of Psalms is a book of the Bible that is a collection of songs which offer readers insight into the world around them, deep personal reflections, and encouragement for faith. Over the next eight weeks, we will dive into a selection of these beautiful songs, including the comforting lyrics of Psalm 23, the praise anthem of Psalm 145, the steadfast assurance of Psalm 46, the joyful chorus of Psalm 34, the reflective reverence of Psalm 111, and the profound verses of Psalm 119. These spiritual songs will refresh your spirit and inspire your faith. Come and listen to the perfect soundtrack, not just for summer, but for all of life.
