Good Shepherd Weekly 6/13

Summer Reading? Check out Galatians.

Martin Luther said of the in the introduction to his Commentary on Galatians, "In my heart reigns this one article, faith in my dear Lord Christ, the beginning, middle and end of whatever spiritual and divine thoughts I may have, whether by day or by night." For Christians the gospel is everything. It is the heartbeat of our spiritual lives. In short the gospel is "Christ for us"--Christ's life lived perfectly in our place, his life given innocently, and his resurrection from the dead. It is simple, but it is easy to get wrong. Or maybe better put: it's hard to get right. Along with your summer reading download this self study on the Book of Galatians so that you too live a Gospel life. Download here.

Wednesday Evening Bible Study

Philippians Bible Study Title.jpg

Wednesdays 7:00pm Online

As Paul writes his letter to the Christians in the city of Philippi, he is bound in prison and disconnected from his friends and church family. He is also facing a dilemma—he is unsure whether he will survive this imprisonment or not. Far from being a lament of his situation, Philippians is a letter filled with joy, praise, and thankfulness. Paul found the unique joy that comes only to those who have been lead by the Holy Spirit to discover the life of Christ. Paul shows us how being a Christian means seeing your own life as an expression of Jesus’ life. Paul shows us that Christ centered contentment can not be stolen away by life’s circumstances.

Sunday Morning Bible Study

Sundays 9:00am In-Person

Every Sunday we follow the same rubric... invocation, confession and absolution, hymn, sermon, blessing, etc... Sometimes it can seem like tradition for tradition's sake, rather than providing an obvious benefit for the people of today. Confessing sin can seem stodgy. The songs can seem old. But far from being a relic of the past this form of worship provides us what is essential for faith and life. It unites us with one another, offers encouragement to all us, and shows us that God is at work even today.

This Sunday

Easter Victorious Web.jpg

God’s words are so powerful! With only his words, Jesus cured illness and raised the dead. With his words, Jesus created the faith that receives his forgiveness. So we should not be surprised this week when we see that Jesus’ words also have the power to push back the spiritual forces of evil that are in the world. Jesus’ words are so compelling, even demons must obey them. It is not surprising that God’s words crush evil. It is a surprise, however, to see that Jesus’ words have Jesus’ power even when they are not coming from Jesus’ mouth. Jesus puts his words on our lips. He makes us his witnesses. And as we carry out that awesome role, Jesus continues to drive back Satan and his allies, just as he did when he walked the earth. When the gospel comes out of the mouths of sinners like us, Jesus sends the power of evil reeling.
