Good Shepherd Weekly 3/1
Wednesday Lent Services
Lent services continue tonight at 7pm. We will look at another witness to Christ: Mary, the sister of Lazarus and Martha. As Jesus and many others are gathered for dinner, Mary anoints Jesus’ feet with an ointment that was worth a year’s wages. What a generous act! Mary’s generosity is contrasted with Judas’ greed. Judas criticizes Mary’s generosity toward Jesus, saying that the ointment could have been sold and the proceeds given to the poor. But John notes something important: Judas did not say this because He cared about the poor. Judas kept the moneybag for the disciples and had been continually stealing from it. While Mary is generous toward Jesus, Judas seeks his own advantage. We remember Mary’s generosity and love, which point us to Jesus.

LWMS Spring Rally
On Saturday, April 15, Good Shepherd is blessed to host the Spring Rally for the Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society (LWMS). We are in the process of changing the name “Rally” to “Hearts in Motion” because that is the perfect description of the LWMS. Hearts moved to serve our missionaries and our missions around the world!!
This will run from 9-3 on April 15. Our guest speaker will be Pastor Timothy Walsh from Grace of God in Dix Hills, NY. Thai Village products will be on display and available for purchase.
The commitments from our ladies is supplying continental brunch items as the ladies are arriving and registering. And also a lunch. Table decorations and and set up are taken care of, however we usually have some kind of “take away” from each event, and if anyone has any artistic idea or fun Spring or mission themed item to have at each table setting let me know.
Please mark this on your calendar to attend! If you weren’t able to make the annual convention last summer in Rochester, this is a mini version right here at our church. If you would like to help out in any way, please let Debbie Giovinazzo know.
New Hymnal Order
Good Shepherd will be placing an order for some extra hymnals. If you would like a hymnal for your personal use, we will make sure to order one for you when we place the order. Hymnals cost $24.00. A check can be made out to Good Shepherd and placed in the offering plate. A sign up sheet is on the bulletin board in the fellowship area.
Upcoming Sunday
The more widespread the need, the greater that need is. You may be able to help one individual in need of a meal, but if an entire nation is facing famine that is something else. Jesus shows that the need of salvation is universal–every human being is in need of saving. But God provides that saving through the gift of faith, “Whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
