Good Shepherd Weekly 2/28

Wednesday Lent Services

Lent services continue tonight at 7pm. Christ's death and resurrection are not only at the center of our faith, but they are also at the center of baptism. St. Paul writes, “Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?” (Romans 6:3). Baptism connects us to the passion. It places us with Christ’s wounds. It buries our sin with his lifeless body. The miraculous washing of baptism is only miraculous because of the promise of the passion. Tonight the Apostle Paul will show us that salvation is indeed a gift, and “not because of righteous things we had done.” It also makes it clear that the power of Baptism is not water, but the Holy Spirit’s power unleashed in the Word.

Easter at Good Shepherd

The Apostle John once wrote, “The life appeared, we have seen it and testify to it.” Notice that he says THE life. There is one true life. The life isn’t just the good life or the best life. The life isn't only a way of life, though it certainly gives a way of life. The life that appeared is Jesus Christ who was raised from the dead. He appeared to change everything. He appeared to silence death. He appeared to give you eternal life, true life, and a life that finds strength in him. Yes, THE life appeared and he even gives you a new way of life.

Easter Sunday Easter Egg Hunt

After service on Easter we will be hosting an easter egg hunt for kids. Baskets will be provided and kids will be able to go on the hunt for eggs.

Foundations

Foundations is an introduction to Biblical and confessional Lutheran theology. That might sound overwhelming but it's not. In each class we will answer one core question of life and then we will see how the Bible answers that question. If you have been a Christian for while, this is a class for you. If you want to know what our church teaches, this is the class for you. Because in this class you will be given the solid foundation of Jesus' teaching.

Upcoming Sunday

When people need to be rescued. People are rescued from something. A person is rescued from the rising waves. A person is rescued from wreckage. Sinful people need rescue too. Sinners need rescue from a guilty record. Sinners need rescue from a verdict. Sinners need a loving and merciful God to spare us. In Jesus’ suffering and death God spared us from the punishment we deserve. But not only does God spare us from something but he spares us for something. Not only has God spared us from punishment, but he has spared us for a new life with him.
