Grassland Nature ID project

A quick update for Glaswelltir Ceredigion. I have just submitted a grant application to Dŵr Cymru’s Citizen Science Fund for the Grassland Nature ID pilot project.

The idea is to partner half a dozen schools with grassland owners, supplying the schools with wildlife ID equipment and training, and supplying the landowner’s with a management plan and small scale habitat improvements.

The partners on the project are Plantlife Cymru, West Wales Biodiversity Information Centre, The Wildlife Trust of South & West Wales, The Buzz Club, Keep Wales Tidy’ Eco-Schools and Ceredigion Nature Partnership.

This project could be the foundation for a network of community-centered semi-natural grassland sites, providing examples of best practise and connections across Ceredigion.

We won’t be asking schools if they’d like to participate until we’re sure we have the funding, but the idea is to have a good spread across the county eg

Next year I hope we can start to work on the “grassland hub”, providing advice and site visits via our website and newsletter (both yet to be built!).
