Grassland ID update

Hia bawb,

A very quick update, as news has been so sporadic. We’ve been hard at work on the Grassland ID pilot project, where half a dozen primary schools are partnered with grassland owners, and provided with wildlife ID equipment, publications, workshops and quizzes. The project is funded by Dŵr Cymru.

The schools taking part are:

1. Ysgol Plascrug (Aberystwyth)
2. Ysgol Gynradd Aberaeron
3. Ysgol Llanarth
4. Ysgol Aberporth
5. Ysgol Gynradd Aberteifi
6. Ysgol Bro Pedr (Lampeter)
7. Ysgol Cilgerran (affiliated)

Isobel from the Buzz Club is creating the 3 quizzes, which will feed into the Citizen Science research at University of Sussex. This is one of the photos used for the worksheets:

I’ve just written the worksheets and sent them off for translation. The 3 workshops are run by people from West Wales Biodiversity Information Centre, Plantlife, Carex Ecology and Ceredigion Nature Partnership. This is the wildlife ID equipment each school will receive:

As you can imagine, this is all quite a lot of organising. The aim is to set up a network of schools and grassland owners to strengthen connections between community, education and land management.

Once the project is up and running, we’ll be looking at other areas of grassland work, such as sharing knowledge, consultancy, machinery, contractors etc

Diolch, Jake
