I made a really annoying game / F*ck the Pedo Elite
Foreword: For any newcomers, this is my second monthly newsletter in which I will hopefully give an insight into my practice, projects and inspirations.
Well, my first two weeks of this month were again spent in its musky embrace of my ugly sofa, getting inspired by films and docs, and I wanna tell you about two of them that left an impact on me.
The first was the Pixar film 'Soul'. I wouldn't say it was my favourite animation I have seen this year ('The Wolf House') but the care and tenderness in it was incredible. The ability to communicate complex ideas, in ways that are accessible and equally impactful, is a skill I will forever covet and Pixar has it.
Similarly I also really enjoyed the 8 confronting hours of Adam Curtis' "Can't Get You Out of My Head". Although definitely less accessible, Curtis' ability to find and communicate the important threads that weave through history, boggles my mind.
One of my key takeaways from the doc, was how the great majority of the world is hungry, even starving, for change. This felt very real to me when I saw "F*ck the Pedo Elite" spray-painted on my street. For those unaware, this is a rallying cry of far-right Qanon supporters, who believe that the world is run by a liberal sex trafficking ring. A few days later when I passed, the word "Pedo" had been crossed out, and now it had become a chant from the Left. It doesn't seem to matter what political side people are on, we feel disenfranchised by the system and want to stick a branch in the wheel of power. This gives me so much hope and also fear, most importantly it makes me want to get off my horrible sofa and contribute to change through my actions and my work.
With that being said, I feel my most recent project may be a little underwhelming but here goes. GDPR is like flossing for me, I hate it but I know it's good for me. One of my main issues with it is the cookie consent banner and all the dark patterns companies use to get your private data. So I built a browser game where you need to reject all cookies as fast as possible while navigating linguistic traps and ambiguous buttons. Give it a go, and if your fast enough you may get a lil surprise.

I am also proud to say I have started working on new start-ups for my fictitious venture capital firm Ventually. These new companies will be exploring how companies are starting to sell our data back to us at a premium and whether a future of near-religious Dataism is what we want.
That's all from me, hope you've enjoyed and have a great month.
