Firstly, we have paid the Palestinian writers of our recent articles on Gaza. We currently have $250 set aside to pay more Palestinian writers.

We have also used our surplus to pay solidarity donations. We paid $200 to Ukraine Solidarity Collectives, an anti-authorian volunteer network, which formed after the Russian invasion to support Ukrainian self defence.

Additionally, we paid $250 to Union Aid’s campaign of Capacity Building for Myanmar's Workers. Union Aid’s Spring Solidarity Quarterly outlined their recent work:

Although a rocket attack on their headquarters in April meant relocating the team, this has not stopped the Confederation of Trade Unions Myanmar (CTUM) from progressing their UnionAID funded training project.

By August a total of 364 people, including a majority of women, had been through the 23 sessions with topics such as Freedom of Association, organising, gender, women’s rights and migration. They report that “the political and trade union education training has resonated particularly with young people”.

Forced conscription by the military has unfortunately meant that some trainees have left the country and the disruption to Internet access after the recent earthquake meant some training had to be suspended. Some training was moved from in-person to online.
Despite these disruptions the CTUM is well on target to train 500 budding trade unionists who can hit the ground running when the military collapses. Under the circumstances this is an amazing achievement and a testament to the strength, determination and courage of Myanmar unionists.
