Fightback donating to causes
Kia Ora friends and comrades,
Fightback has a substantial surplus thanks to all our fabulous paid subscribers, so we decided to donate a total of $1,200 to a range of causes. This will not conflict with our usual activities.
The solidarity donations were as follows:
Union Aid is an Aotearoa/New Zealand based organisation. Union Aid works with other organisations in the Asia-Pacific, to promote collective action for liberation. International working-class solidarity is essential.
Medical Aid for Palestinians do essential work, given the ongoing genocide that has escalated since 2023. This atrocity is backed by Western powers, including the New Zealand government, recently engaged in the RIMPAC exercise. The recent outpouring of solidarity with Palestine is a positive development, although there’s still a long way to go.
Ukraine Solidarity Collectives are a group of Ukrainian anarchists who united when the Russian invasion began, in order to support their comrades fighting at the front and help those affected by the Russian invasion. Fightback refuses the campist position that we must choose between imperialist powers such as Russia and the USA. We stand in solidarity with everyone fighting for self-determination.
Wellington Pride Festival has a claim brought against them by representatives of a transphobic group, misleadingly called Lesbian Action for Visibility Aotearoa (LAVA). The case concerns WPF’s refusal to offer a stall to the group. WPF has launched a crowdfunding campaign, and given our support for trans liberation, Fightback supports them in their legal battle.
Greater Auckland is an urbanist blog advocating intensified housing, walkable neighbourhoods and high quality public transport in Aotearoa / New Zealand's largest city. Although GA does not share Fightback's anti-capitalist politics, we support their advocacy for a sustainable urban future in Tāmaki Makarau / Auckland, and we have platformed each others' writers in the past. Urbanism is an ecosocialist issue and we are happy to give them our critical support.
Chloe Ann-King is a young working professional who has founded Raise the Bar Hospitality Union, a hospitality union. On 9 July 2024, Chloe suffered a seizure caused by a brain aneurysm. Her partner has launched a crowdfunding campaign to support her recovery. We stand with a fighter for workers’ rights.
We apologise for the recent pause in publishing articles. We will soon publish a review by Daphne Lawless, of the book Three Way Fight: Revolutionary Politics and Antifascism.
Thank you all for supporting our work!
