Running a fediverse news account without a Twitter account: a feature on the Android application Squawker
It's time for a feature.
As you might know, I run something called Splatoon Unofficial and Crossing Corner on the fediverse. I would argue that it's the best way for fans of both games to remain connected with their universe.
I've been doing this for about a year and two months at this point (for Splatoon Unofficial) and throughout my reporting, the way that I've gotten my news has vastly changed.
I've been getting it from a variety of sources: posts from dataminers which were just mirrored from Twitter, dealing with bird.makeup, using mirrors again, using Nitter, but now I've found my solution.
It's an application called Squawker and it allows me to follow the accounts I want to (basically more than just the Splatoon related stuff I was following in the past) with having no issues with delays (which has become an increasing issue with bird.makeup unfortunately).
You can download it from GitHub or you can also download it from the F-Droid store.
Once you have downloaded it, you'll probably be presented with a blank screen, but it's super easy to follow accounts. I won't detail the process here as I'm just making a quick feature on it, but Squawker has the ability to categorize people that you want to follow in groups which is super easy to keep things organised.
As an example, I have one for cell stuff (posts from my carrier mostly and stuff regarding the 3G switch-off), Splatoon, Animal Crossing and Roblox.

You can open up one of the groups and see what's the latest from people in them, here's an example.

This application has truly been a huge help to reporting stuff for Splatoon Unofficial and Crossing Corner, and I would encourage you all to give it a try.
I guess that's it then, take care!
