Cultivating your English #9: Converting mistakes into birds
❤️“There is still a lot to learn and there is always great stuff out there. Even mistakes can be wonderful.”❤️ Robin WIlliams
Thanks for your feedback https://twitter.com/menka?lang=en Regarding #8, Menka said: " This touched a chord with me since English is my second language and I'm also very self conscious of my accent"
(“Touch a chord (with someone)”: To elicit or trigger a strong emotional response to something; to be very poignant.)https://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/touched+a+chord
I was surprised because after quite a few conversations with Menka I had never realised that English was her second language! 🤯😎🤩
😻Challenge😻
Listen to this song and complete the spaces (I recommend selecting choice mode): https://lyricstraining.com/play/bobby-mcferrin/dont-worry-be-happy/U8nMdGuR78
Now after listening to Superman(Christopher Reeve), Bobby McFerrin and Robin WIlliams’ instructions you should be happy and you shouldn't be worrying 😅
Do you think that life's troubles are doubled by worrying, like Bobby McFerrin says? Stopping worrying is easier said than done though, right?!
Check out this video and do the exercises if you fancy: https://www.engvid.com/how-to-give-commands-in-english/ How easy are imperatives in English?!
Engvid is a fantastic website and resource. It offers you hundreds of useful explanations and exercises from some great teachers. Why not find another video to watch and press reply to share your feedback? Maybe you like a particular teacher or video for example.
I have made many memorable, embarrassing, funny or epic mistakes in my life, some linguistic and some more general. The secret is, of course, to try to learn from them and not repeat them. Remember James Wedmore’s words? “You either get the result that you wanted or the lesson that you needed”.
Soon you are going to hear about a memorable mistake which became “wonderful” as the great Robin WIlliams suggested. It involves potatoes, an English class, a listening exercise and one of my favourite students. What on earth could have happened? 🤔😝
Thank you for reading and I hope to see you in #10! 😊
