Cultivating your English #7: Ludicrous missions
♥️"Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."♥️ Unknown (but not Einstein!)
Rosa said the following regarding Simon Sinek’s video: “I absolutely agree about what Simon says in the vídeo, it’s not how fast and exausted you reach your target, it’s how you find pleasure in reaching your target. “
Thanks for your feedback Rosa, sooooo true! Try to enjoy the ride!
Did you find a language buddy? The best way of learning is by teaching so maybe you can help someone you know with their English, like Daniel does.
He sent me an interesting article about how many words you need to know to be able to communicate in a new language. Here it is: https://www.bbc.com/mundo/noticias-44592024
If you want to help someone with their English this might be of use to them. Was it a surprising read?
How is it going with https://freerice.com/ , https://www.cambridgeenglish.org/learning-english/games-social/quiz-your-english/ and https://lyricstraining.com/ ?

Listen to this episode about loving learning languages- there is also an audio script if you want. Which of the benefits to learning a language is most important to you?! Maybe it’s something which they didn’t mention…
6 minute English is a fantastic resource. Why not try to listen to an episode every day until the end of the challenge? There are hundreds of topics to choose from.
We had an interesting debate last week in one of the exchange sessions. It was regarding the linguistic situation in Catalonia. My dream is for Catalonia to be trilingual- Catalan, Spanish and another language. Sorry but there are no prizes for guessing what I think the 3rd language should be!
I think Catalonia is a richer society because it’s largely bilingual. If it were trilingual I think it would be even richer and it’s inhabitants would have more opportunities in life.
If this was a reality in 20 years time, how would Catalonia be different? Would there be any negative aspects of having 3 official languages? Would a child born in Palau-solità i Plegamans or Castellar de n'Hug today have more opportunities in 2041 being trilingual? If you agree with me that we would be richer as a trilingual region, would you like to join me on this ludicrous mission?
Multilingual regions and countries are common around the world- How many official languages does South Africa have? 11!!!! OMG, that’s just crazy! https://www.treehugger.com/worlds-most-multilingual-countries-4864180
To be quite honest, just the thought of this ludicrous mission “scares the living shit out of me” (that’s the technical term😅). But as Ellen said:
I think I will try to start with The Springs (Les Fonts), where we live. It’s a divided village that’s not even a “real” village! Two years ago we lived in The Springs of Terrassa and now we live in The Springs of Sant Quirze. Fairly soon it will all be The Springs of Terrassa, which some people are not happy about. Maybe it’s the perfect moment to campaign for linguistic diversity in our little pseudo village! What do you think? Where would I start?! 🤯🙈🤣
“Answers on a postcard”.... Or maybe just press reply and share your thoughts, I’d love to read them!
Peace out folks, thanks for reading this far and see you in #8! 🙏😊
