Cultivating your English: #2 The camino se hace when you walk (or ski/kayak)
♥️“A mind is like a parachute. It doesn't work if it is not open.”♥️ Frank Zappa
This is the second of 20 emails between now and 9th July which will help Janet and you “cultivate your English”. You can unsubscribe at any time.
This email is all about finding your "English way".
Your English way is unique to you. Others can help you find your way, but you are the only person who knows when you are on it.
Think for a moment about the nicest journey you have ever been on in your life. Only a journey where you propel yourself: ie walking, running, kayaking, cycling, skateboarding, skiing etc. (no trains, planes or automobiles!)
👉Maybe through a beautiful forest with birds singing and accompanied by the love of your life. 🌳🌲🦜❤️
👉Maybe along the "brave" coast in a kayak with your son and dolphins as travelling companions. 🛶🐬
👉Maybe a cross country skiing adventure for several days with dear friends and starry nights.⛷️⭐🌚⭐
If you follow the signs your English way can be like this. It can create magical memories for you.
Nobody can progress on your way for you- it’s your dedication and effort which allows you to move in the right direction.
🌻 Challenge 1 🌻
Listen to this 10 min audio I recorded for Janet: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1C2H0NgWUOyZwNWyz75VoFtxlGI7U2Inp/view?usp=drivesdk
Write a paragraph or record an audio response explaining your thoughts. I’d love to hear from you- just press reply!
🌻 Challenge 2 🌻
https://www.ted.com/talks/lydia_machova_the_secrets_of_learning_a_new_language/up-next
👉Remember that if you watch it on a computer you can put subtitles in a variety of different languages.
👉Could you imagine using any of the strategies Lydia talks about?
👉What strategies and techniques could you use to really enjoy the learning process?
👉Try and "think outside the box" and be creative. Do a brainstorming session and make a list of these ideas.
👉The only limitation you have is your imagination. Press reply and tell me your thoughts!
Thanks for your feedback George: “When I'm listening I feel well, until doubtful words arrive in my brain. Which confuses the sentence. I take all opportunities in the Antique Dragon shop to practice English with clients and normally I don't get nervous because it is my comfort zone.”
I thought this bit was very interesting because he is comfortable with his English when people enter his antique shop. It’s his life’s work and passion so he feels in his comfort zone there. You are making great progress George!! 👏👏
Thanks for reading and I look forward to hearing from you- see you in email #3! 😁
