Cultivating your English: #1 Fruity inspiration
♥️“Learn a new language and get a new soul.”♥️ Czech proverb.
This is the first of 20 emails between now and 9th July which will help Janet and you “cultivate your English”. You can unsubscribe at any time.
Hi guys, thanks for being here and to Janet and JP for inspiring me to get out of my comfort zone! 🙏
Let’s start with where you are right now…..
👉How do you feel about your English when you are speaking, listening, reading, writing?
👉Do you feel tense, nervous, relaxed, excited, motivated, bored, optimistic, stressed out etc etc?
👉How does your body feel?
Does this image that Marta sent me resonate with you? https://photos.app.goo.gl/d5iEYNEf9Jue5gok6 If so, let’s change that! 💪
🌻Challenge 1: the “low hanging fruit”. 🍏🍐🍋🍎 (This term is a commonly used metaphor for doing the simplest or easiest work first, in order to obtain quick, gratifying results)
“What’s the best way of improving your English? Spending time in an English speaking country.” Sound familiar? 🤓
So…. is it something in the water? In the air?! Nooooo! It’s actually very simple: contact with English. The more contact you have, the more progress you make- it’s not rocket science!🚀🚀 https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/it-s-not-rocket-science
If that contact is enjoyable then it’s easier to stay motivated of course.
Everything you can do in the next 4 weeks in English try to do it in English. Let’s maximise the contact you have with English in your day to day with a minimum amount of effort. Here are some ideas:
👉Put every device you have in English (phone, tablet, pc, etc)
👉Set all apps, software, browsers etc to English. (twitter, chrome, Linkedin etc)
👉When searching for things on the internet, do it in English, including when you ask Siri or Alexa things!
👉Watch 100% of series and films in the original version.
👉When sending whatsapps/emails etc to people do it completely or partially in English when you know that person speaks English.
👉Only listen to music in English.
👉Do listening practice while you are doing something that doesn’t allow a lot of concentration. (eg cooking, cleaning, ironing, driving, doing exercise etc)
Any other ideas? If so then get in touch- I’d love to share them with the other subscribers! Also, share your experiences of any of these things if you already do them.
🌻Challenge 2:
Find a buddy to share this 4 week journey with. Think of someone who would like to improve their English and ask them if they want to join you. It doesn’t matter if the person has a higher or a lower level than you.
There are about 2 billion people out there that might be interested 😉 You may find someone in my Linkedin group https://www.linkedin.com/groups/12504356/ - let me know if you are not already a member.
This buddy can help motivate you and vice versa.
Let me know how you get on with these first two challenges- I’d love to hear from you. 😊
Stay awesome and see you in newsletter #2!
