Resist The Devil

Resist the Devil, and He Will Flee
“So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” – James 4:7 (NLT)
Spiritual warfare is not always loud or dramatic. Often, it’s quiet, subtle, and disguised as ordinary life. C.S. Lewis, in The Screwtape Letters, reminds us that the devil doesn’t need to shock us into rebellion; he only needs to distract us, just enough to pull us off course.
Lewis writes from the perspective of a senior demon advising a junior tempter on how to lead a human soul away from God, who he calls “the enemy.” What’s striking is how mundane the strategies are. Pride, busyness, shallow spirituality, gossip, and the lure of comfort are the quiet tools of the enemy. He doesn’t want us to hate God; he just wants us to forget Him.
But James gives us a clear response: humble yourselves before God. That’s where resistance begins.

The moment we surrender to God’s will, we stand in strength not our own. The devil can tempt, but he cannot overpower a heart that is yielded to Christ.
Even when the battle feels overwhelming, the promise is simple and sure: resist the devil, and he will flee. He has no authority over a life grounded in God.
This week and beyond, guard your heart from small compromises. Stay watchful. Be honest about distractions and keep drawing near to God daily.
