In which I can explain
Okay, so this was definitely supposed to be the MAY newsletter, but then my life kind of got taken over by Mass Effect Legendary Edition and, honestly, I have no regrets (100% survival rate in ME2 without spoilers, thank you very much). Then I decided I would wait until my Aetherbound author copies came, except Something Happened, and they never arrived (Andrew sent me 4 copies from his house, so I have HELD it). So here we are.
Mostly this note is just to say thank you. Last year, when Queen's Peril came out, I couldn't celebrate and I didn't really feel like celebrating anyway. I accepted that, but it still sent me headfirst into the worst depression spiral of my life. Throughout everything, my readers were there, showing support and posting pictures on social media, and reaching out to let me know how much they'd enjoyed the book. It made a huge difference. With Aetherbound, I feel like we got to celebrate together, and I am so, so pleased about it. You have all be wonderful. Thank you.
Now it's Pride and I'm looking at my books through the queerest possible lens (it's, uh, not difficult, it turns out!). I am so glad I get to share them with you: eleven and counting (and JUST YOU WAIT until I can talk about Queen's Hope! I AM SO EXCITED).
A quick breakdown in case you're wondering:
1. The Story of Owen and Prairie Fire have a demi protagonist
2. A Thousand Nights has an ace protagonist and Spindle has a demi protagonist
3. That Inevitable Victorian Thing has an intersex/demi protagonist and a demi/...queer (in progress!) protagonist
4. The Afterward has a lesbian protagonist and a bisexual protagonist
5. Aetherbound has a trans love interest
6. I cram as much queerness into Star Wars as I can, lbr
...i need to update this picture, clearly, but I can't sacrifice momentum right now I HAVE PUT THIS OFF TOO LONG!
This newsletter will continue to be sporadic, but I enjoy it, and I am always glad to see new subscribers. I'll see you when I see you. <3 ekj
