Book Launch 2: The Second One
we are having a two book summer and it is pretty great, i won’t lie
I’m writing this on Sunday, having just got home from the launch party for Sky On Fire and Titan of the Stars. It was at Bakka Phoenix in Toronto, which is one of my favourite bookstores. I haven’t had a launch party or a Toronto event since 2019, so it was nice to get back to the bookstore and to my friends, but I was surprised at how much I liked Toronto. It helped that the heatwave broke right before I got there, so it was like 20 degrees and breezy the whole time.

ANYWAY.
It’s Tuesday now, and Sky On Fire is finally available. I drafted it in 2022 in Newfoundland and edited it in 2024 in my new house. It’s 2025, and it’s going to be on shelves for all of you. Morgan is one of my favourite protagonists ever. She’s a lot like me (Kirkus even called her “oddly emotionally distant”, which is accurate!), and writing her was a joy.

Sky On Fire is the sequel to Aetherbound, and adds a new character into the rebellious mix. I think you’re going to like her.
Morgan Enni has things to do. A science prodigy in a university full of mage-scientists, she’s notable for having no magical ability, which only increases her ambition and drive to prove herself. Her research has the potential to devastate every aetherworker in the galaxy and shake the crumbled foundations of the Stavenger Empire. It’s no wonder she can’t find anyone who wants to listen to her, much less fund her expedition.
But Morgan is stubborn, and eventually her work catches the attention of a group of rebels, who hope it might turn the tide in their favour. When they try to recruit the young scientist, they get much more than they bargained for. Morgan Enni has secrets of her own.
Penguin says it’s fast-paced and thought-provoking, which is always nice.

You can get Sky On Fire at any bookstore or request it from your local library. You can leave reviews on websites or just tell all your friends. You can get signed copies from Bakka Phoenix (they have Titan of the Stars, too).
I’m 17 books in. I have 4 more under contract. And my dreams remain uncountable. Thank you for coming with me.
