12:00 – 3:00pm (ET) :::::: Live from Münster, Germany
It's a veritable conga-line of birthday cake awardees lined up today at the Stork, just waiting for the music to start! South African drummer, pianist, composer and vocalist Johnny Dyani would be turning 85. He'll get an extra-long tribute. Born the very same day, Romanian-born concert pianist Radu Lupu will attempt to class up the Club a little (hey, let the guy try!). From Jacksonville, Fla: trumpeter, vocalist and actor Jack Sheldon would be 94 - he's waiting for you at the conjunction junction. American photographer (Life Magazine), composer, author, poet, and filmmaker Gordon Parks from Fort Scott, Kansas, would be 113. Chi-Town's own Allan Sherman - legendary song-parodist and gourmet turns 101. Likewise from out of the Windy City, singer-actor Mandy Patinkin lights 73 candles and makes with the cabaret-vibe. And LA-born Shuggie Otis, guitarist/songwriter, and son of the great bluesman Johnny Otis, will be turning 71. Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill (151 upon this day) never wangled a record deal, or we'd have to put him on the card as well.
