Special Program: Pi Recordings — 25th Anniversary
Pi Recordings, a NYC-based record label specializing in the crème de la crème of creative improvised music, celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. The label’s focus on established masters (e.g. Henry Threadgill, Roscoe Mitchell, Roscoe Mitchell) and newer musicians (e.g. Steve Lehman, Tyshawn Sorey, David Virelles) has propelled it to the top tiers of jazz music production. For a three-hour feature celebrating Pi Recordings’ quarter-century anniversary, the label’s producers (Seth Rosner and Yulun Wang) sat for an interview about Pi’s storied history.
