Bappi Lahiri (1952-2022): Crowned Bollywood’s “Disco King” in the 1980s, Bappi Lahiri was the only child of Bengali musical artists Aparesh and Bansuri Lahiri and the nephew of playback singer Kishore Kumar. Though best known for his upbeat hits written for Disco Dancer and Dance Dance, Lahiri’s oeuvre was as varied as anyone’s in the business, including romantic soundtracks for evergreen classics like Chalte Chalte. Lahiri passed away last Wednesday, and this three-hour tribute will honor the full spectrum of his output.
