Test Prints + Happy #LDOV!
Long time no newsletter! 💗
Last time I promised you updates about test prints: Let’s get into it!
Behind the scenes at Roaring Book Press, I’m working with my editor and creative director on a series of test prints to make sure my color choices survive the translation from RGB (colored light) to CMYK (colored ink). Ink tends to print darker than you expect and there are limitations to certain colors, especially bright purples, pinks, and greens. I also have to adjust for the specific color profile of the printer. I wasn’t expecting it to be so much work!
We also had to decide between glossy paper or matte paper. I prefer the texture of matte paper, but glossy paper definitely prints clear and vibrant, which we all agreed looked the best!
This also gives me an opportunity to adjust colors that came out different than expected. When we converted the color profile, medium browns like Brooke’s hair or Josie’s skin tone ended up saturated and almost orange. I’ll be doing another round of test prints to make sure the colors are the best they can be!

I hope you all had a lovely Lesbian Visibility Week! Did you see any lesbians out there in the wild? We all go back to being invisible tomorrow, so look for us while you still can. Ha-ha. Jokes aside, check out hashtags like #LesbianVisibilityWeek, #LesbianVisibilityDay #LDOV, etc to discover awesome lesbian artists and sapphic projects!
I always try to draw something special for LDOV. I’m very busy with the book this year, but I managed to find time to draw my girls for fun outside of the book 💗
Thanks for reading! Until next time,
💗 Dresden
