Mix Annotations - My Body Has a Little Heat

Hi Friends!

As always, lots going on. Here's a taste:

  • Last week I bought a ~15-20lb bag of pineapple rinds off the Too Good To Go app and had to store it in my hotel shower.

Some very grey looking pineapple in a clear garbage back in a shower.
It looks grey in this photo, but there was still plenty of good pineapple meat to be harvested.
  • I've been asked to wear a Spongebob Squarepants costume to a 5-year old's birthday party in the woods.

A drawing of Patrick from Spongebob, but it looks like he's wearing thigh-highs.
Unrelated, my niece's drawing of Patrick that everyone won't stop saying is "Serving C---"
  • "Universal Basic Income" scans so well with "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," but the title generator can't make it line up right.

In the format of the Ninja Turtles logo, it says "Universal" on top and "Basic Income" on the bottom.

  • I still haven't found the right moment to share this screenshot with the caption Solar-ASS, but maybe I will soon (though I did enjoy the movie well enough).

A screenshot from the movie Solaris where you get to see a bit of George Clooney's butt.

  • Nothing's making me laugh more than Lis referring to me as her "best guy friend."

ANNOTATIONS

Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons - The Night Isn't this what Jersey Boys was about? I didn't see it, but that's my guess.

Buck 65 - Super Dope I put this album on in the car and felt fine about it until Lis said "His songs are very repetitive." It's really something that I still remember so many lyrics from Secret House Against the World, and for what? For whom?

Luge - I'll Be Lucky Exclaim had a post for this and for a new Sluice song, and I was like, "Luge? Sluice? What's up with these names?!"

Ducktails - Forever Getting reminded about Ducktails is like getting reminded about someone from high school where you're like "Oh wow, I haven't thought about them in forever! And they're still alive?"

This Heat - "Sleep" I probably first heard of This Heat in an interview with the Women guys during press for their first album. Probably also when I first heard about DNA, but I could be conflating things.

Eddie Holman - Four Walls I think someone shared this on IG.

The Daughters of Eve - Hey Lover Spotify playlist.

Blossom Dearie - Somebody New Spotify playlist.

Margo Guryan - Why Do I Cry Spotify playlist. Honestly, I was on a girl group jag.

Tobacco City - America Probably also a spotify playlist. It's one heckuva earworm.

Peter Broderick - Losing My Taste for the Nightlife Wow, I'm addicted to Arthur Russel covers! Second mix in a row. Let's see if we make it three.

Kraftwerk - Ohm Sweet Ohm Close personal friends. I probably first heard Kraftwerk as a teenager while listening to an episode of The Ongoing History of New Music. In a way, it's so strange that I bought in and wasn't immediately freaked out. But I guess I'd heard Coldplay's "Talk" by then.

Skeeter Davis - The End of the World Tunefind says it was in The Flight Attendant and Mad Men, so could've been from there.

Masahiro Takahashi - Okinawa Sunset Just the scene, man.

P:ano - Hollow Stars Wow, I'm addicted to Nicholas Krgovich! Second mix in a row. Seeing that P:ano released a new song was a big day for me. I'm such a confirmed Krgobitch.

Colin Stetson - Passage Close personal friend.

Sylvester - Stormy Weather I think this album had just been getting reviewed a bunch? It's in the ether.

While space allows, I’m stashing my recent mixes and annotations in a Google Drive folder, which you can visit here: The Archive

As always, here's the link to this year's fundraiser. The goal is a modest $2024, but I will increase it if we go over. It would mean a lot to me if you considered donating: tinyurl.com/Draiser2024.

Even if you’ve already donated, please consider sharing it with your friends and family.
