New spell: Prank

Wizards: No sense of right and wrong

Academia Arcana RPG will crowdfund in 2026. The original plan was for late 2025, but life finds a way to get in the way. So I wanted to share a spell that I've been working on. This is a second revision. AA RPG will be formatted in 5.5x8.5” page size so I'm doing my best to contain each spell to a single page or page spread. Admittedly, this won't always be possible, as with with the make minor potion spell.

Below is the Prank spell, and I truly would like feedback in the comments! I'll also give a shout out to Luau Lou for suggesting that I create such a spell! Its just one of the 19 new spells planned in AA RPG. Click on the link above and you’ll find a few more in the Quickstart rules.

Prank

Level: 1

Range: 30'

Duration: Varies

Casting Time: 1 round

Save: Willpower vs Spellcheck

General: The caster channels primal forces of the universe in the most immature manner possible. The caster must select a “style” of prank prior to making their spellcheck, otherwise a prank must be randomly rolled. Students are known to invent unique pranks that are not listed below.

Kick Me Sign. Attackers gain +CL to attacks against the target for 1d3+CL rounds.

Stink. The target suffers -1d to interpersonal Personality checks for CL minutes.

Itching Powder. The target suffers -CL to concentration checks, spellcasting, casting spells, and other actions that require mental focus (judge’s discretion).

Manifestation: As per the specific result.

Corruption: Roll 1d3: (1) whenever the caster fails a inter-social personality check, they smell like farts for 1 turn; (2) the caster's hair is permanently moist with a goofy cowlick; (3) everything always tastes spicy.

Misfire: Roll 1d3: reroll the spell with the same bonuses and apply the result to (1) the caster; (2) a random ally; (3) everyone within 10'

1: Lost, failure, and worse! Roll 1d6 modified by Luck: (0 or less) corruption + patron taint + misfire; (1-2) corruption; (3) patron taint (or corruption if no patron); 4+ misfire.

2-11: Lost. Failure.

12-13: The caster may select 1+CL target.

14-17: The caster may select up to 1d3+CL targets.

18-19: The caster may select up to 1d5+CL targets.

20-23: The caster may select up to 1d7+CL targets.

24-27: The caster may select up to 2d6+CL targets.

28-29: The caster may select up to 2d10+CL targets.

30-31: The caster may select up to 2d14+CL targets.

32+: The caster may select up to 2d30+CL targets.
