Did You Know?
Discover Teas was originally opened in March of 2011 by our founder and original business owner Chris Farishon, with the assistance of her friend, herbalist Kenneth Roberts. The first brick-and-mortar store was in Williamsburg, Virginia, followed 20 months later by another brick-and-mortar in Newport News, VA. I first started going to Discover Teas as a customer, and after 6 months of coming regularly (sometimes every day they were open for weeks on end), officially joined the team myself in 2014. At the time, I had no idea that I would later become co-owner, then the sole business owner—all I knew was that I loved learning about tea, working with tea, and getting to know our customers.
In 2017, Chris chose to move on to her next adventure, and Ken left to focus on caring for his elderly family. Since the leases on both Discover Teas locations were ending, it was decided to close the brick-and mortar operations of the company and pivot to relying on website sales and wholesale. While this decision was unpopular at first, it proved vital to the survival of Discover Teas after the COVID-19 pandemic started shutting down brick-and-mortar stores in 2020.
Throughout the years, many people have been involved in helping Discover Teas persist, from other colleagues and employees to friends and fellow entrepreneurs in the local business community. At the end of the day though, I think the real reason Discover Teas has been fortunate enough to celebrate so many years in business comes down to you. Whether you've been with Discover Teas from the very start or only joined the tea family recently, I'm grateful beyond words for your support.
A lot has changed in all this time, but the one thing that hasn't changed is the mission: Tea with Love, Purpose, and Gratitude. That's a mission that, with your help, I hope to be able to continue for years to come.

New incentive program: Take a Stand, Make a Plan
In times like this, it's hard to find the "happy" for this birthday. Stripping away civil rights, destroying our efforts at international goodwill, and tanking the economy is just the start for this corrupt and bigoted administration. This year looks to be the hardest yet with no end in sight—unless we do something.
What can we do? More than you might think, especially if we do it together. To that end, to celebrate Discover Teas' birthday a little differently this year, I am launching a new incentive program to encourage us to do what we can, where and how we can.
Donate at least $100 to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations doing the groundwork to support and protect our most vulnerable communities (locally, nationally, and globally) from the bigoted attacks of the current administration.
You can do this multiple times and receive gift codes each time, whether it’s by donating to different organizations or setting up a recurring donation and sending proof each time, but I request that you only redeem or gift 1 code per month so that I can afford to keep doing this.
Join a virtual Action Hour: Starting this month, I will be holding monthly virtual Action Hours (the next one is Friday, 03/14!)
With the added pressure of current events on top of the existing demands of day-to-day life, it can be hard to set aside extra time to advocate for each other, so however you are choosing to spend your energy in resistance, during these Action Hours, we can do it together alongside other people.
These meetings will take place over Jitsi Meet, a video conferencing platform that is free to use, works on desktop and mobile browsers, is available to all attendees without needing a login, and does not collect or sell your data. You do not need to use your full name, camera, or microphone.
You are welcome to attend multiple sessions and will receive a gift code for each one, but I request that you only redeem or gift 1 code per month so that I can afford to keep doing this.
This month's Action Hour will be this coming Friday, 03/14/25, at 6:00pm Eastern (UTC-4). I know everyone's schedule is different, so I intend to offer different hours on different days each month so people in different timezones or who have different schedules can also participate.
Individually, these actions may not change the world, but they may mean the world to those around us—and may prepare us and our communities to come together and do what it takes to change the world.
"When isolation, trauma and despair are weaponized; building community, helping people heal, and bringing hope are acts of resistance."—A. Marshall
