News: Pride Month donations ongoing through July 6th!
Pride Month is coming to an end, but our support doesn't have to end with it. For all of June since June 1st, and through 11:59pm EST on July 6th, 2024, 10% of all online retail sales (not including tax and shipping) will continue to be donated to the Black Trans Advocacy Coalition and the Transgender Law Center to aid in the fight against bigotry and hate. These fights are particularly relevant as the Supreme Court takes a first swipe at unraveling same-sex marriage rights and prepares to weigh in on state restrictions on gender-affirming care for youths, which can be life-saving care.
Reminder: Get a gift code when you take an action for hope—extended through July 6th!
Send a screenshot of an action for hope and receive a $5 coupon code for each action you take! If you're able to make a donation to one of the listed causes, send a screenshot and receive a coupon code for either $5 or 15% of your donation, whichever is higher. Please block out any sensitive details, especially card numbers!
See last month's newsletter for the list of actions and donations, and more details. You can also take an action for hope by continuing in whatever Juneteenth solidarity actions you took, such as donating to a Black-led organization such as The Movement For Black Lives and/or Black Alliance for Just Immigration, contributing to mutual aid for Black people online or offline, celebating Black-owned small businesses, and sharing learning and resources.
In addition to all of those, there are some new eligible actions you can take and screenshot that have been added due to current events:
- Actions to protest against banning masks in New York State
- Actions to protest against banning masks in Los Angeles, California
Some reasons to protest mask bans:
Mask bans are already exclusionary towards disabled people, who are already shut away from society, as well as people who are immunocompromised, cancer survivors, the elderly, and their family and support networks (such as myself). But it's not just about public health.
What is particularly and extremely concerning is that these mask bans are specifically targeted towards restricting the right to protest, as a reaction against the student protests against genocide. Even medical exemptions in these bans are not enough, as they only encourage violations of peoples' medical privacy. All of these are reasons that these bills set chilling, undemocratic precedents. Whether you personally wear a mask or not, please oppose mask ban legislation in your locality, city, or state, not only in solidarity with disabled communities, but as a way to protect our civil rights.
