February updates from DCC

Hello,

The start of the year for us has been all about expanding how groups can use Land Explorer, strengthening how we support housing justice groups, and opening up more ways for people to get involved in supporting the tech itself.

Here are some highlights…

⚡TL;DR

  • New practical GDPR handbook for housing justice groups: get it here (at the bottom of the page)

  • 1-hour Land Explorer onboarding calls now available: get in touch

  • Our new open source contributor space is live: find it here

📘 New: GDPR Handbook for Housing Justice Groups

Together with Shared Assets, we’ve created a practical GDPR guide for housing justice groups. It’s about keeping people safe while still organising effectively, not slowing things down or ticking boxes.

It focuses on:

  • When GDPR actually applies (and when it doesn’t)

  • Collecting only what you need

  • Avoiding “purpose creep”

  • Sharing data safely within campaigns

  • And more…

You can access the guide here (scroll to the resources section at the bottom for the handbook link).

🗺️ New 1-Hour Land Explorer Onboarding Calls

We now offer 1-hour onboarding calls for community groups and campaigners who want to use Land Explorer more confidently.

Land Explorer brings together land ownership and related datasets in one place, helping groups:

  • Investigate who owns specific sites

  • Spot ownership patterns

  • Strengthen campaigns with evidence

On the call, we’ll walk you through the platform, explore your specific campaign needs, and answer any questions.

🛠️ New: Open Source Contributor Space

We’ve launched a new open source contributor space for people who want to support tech for good.

If you’re a developer, researcher, designer, or just curious about contributing to shared digital infrastructure for communities, you can now see what we’re working on and where help is needed.

Explore the contributor board here. 🙏

We’re building tools that make hidden systems visible, and we’d love more people involved.

That’s it for now!

In solidarity,
The Digital Commons Co-operative Team
