Can you help make land ownership data public?
Hi,
We’re getting in touch with our LandExplorer community. We’re writing to ask for your help.
LandExplorer has recently added Land Ownership data and the ability to search for other land owned by the same owner. This is a really exciting feature that we know is hugely empowering to community groups, activists and change makers.
This feature set has already been used to:
Help a solar coop find suitable places for solar panels
Help community groups understand the public green space local to them
Help local environmental groups organise litter picking
Help potential growers find potential growing sites and reach out to the owners
For the past couple of months we’ve been working to ensure that this data is kept up to date, incorporating monthly updates of all the latest land sales across the UK. We hit a number of unexpected snags, including unexpected data cleaning work and some complex system administration tasks in the automation. These setbacks meant we have run out of funding to finish this work at the very final hurdle.
So we’re writing to ask for help. If you have found the LandExplorer ownership functionality useful would you consider making a contribution to our Open Collective Fundraiser. We are aiming to raise £2000 to finish this round of development work and ensure we have useful and up to date information available for community groups and social movements across the UK.
Regardless of whether or not you can support LandExplorer’s mission right now, we really appreciate having you in the LandExplorer community. We’d love to know more about how you are using LandExplorer and this helps us make the case to funders that our work is having a real impact on the ground. If you have a story about how LandExplorer has helped you and your work, please let us know here.
Thanks so much for the amazing work you are doing in your community!
In solidarity,
Colm, Kate, Lynne, Rohit, Marcel and Nick - all working very part time to build LandExplorer.
