An art exhibit, Bay Station at Sunset Dunes and a Flight Lessons excerpt at Berkeley Bird Festival

Fall is one of my favorite times of year in large part because it’s synonymous with bird migration. More specifically, fall is when I volunteer to help monitor the fall raptor migration along the Pacific Flyway which runs through the Marin Headlands.
I’ve found hawk-watching over the past 15 years to be awe inspiring, life-affirming and myth-busting: Nature is infinitely wise and artificial borders are often oppressive. Animal migration — be it birds, insects, or mammals — transcends borders and reminds us that life is meant to be lived in rhythm with the seasons, the stars and the tides.
In an effort to share my wonder, I’ve collaborated with Buteo Books in San Rafael on another raptor-themed art exhibit: ‘Peak Season: Celebrating Raptor Migration,’ which runs Sept 24-Nov 14 and features the work of an amazing group of artists and photographers including:

In other news, I’m presenting several songs from and talking about the back story to Flight Lessons, my falcon-themed folk opera, Sunday, October 18 as part of the Berkeley Bird Festival. The festival is FREE, all ages, and features a ton of great presentations, art, performance field trips and more. Hope to see you there!
