We've Beyond Reached This Point
In this edition, I lament America’s decline and the rising dangers of tariffs and political distress.
The actions that took place on Monday afternoon into early evening clearly shows—if it hasn’t been made clear already—America is in a state of distress.
The convicted felon has decided to place a pause on a military aid to Ukraine. This is on top of SecDef taking actions to order US Cyber Command to stand down from planning anything against Russia.
It hasn’t even been a month and a half since January 20. The felon’s actions show that he is a Russian asset and the White House is now an official arm of the Kremlin. There’s no other way to read to this. There really isn’t. America is no longer the leader to the free world. It’s up to Canada and European leaders to take charge on this matter.
The attacks on American democracy never cease to end. I’m back to watching MSNBC nightly rather than putting in efforts to make it a two or three film day. Staying up way too late into the evening isn’t helping either but that’s where my mental health is at of late.
My only hope is that Republicans will rise up in response and join Democrats in fighting back. We’re in a five-alarm fire and we cannot do this alone.
It Would Be Funny If It Weren’t So Sad
The above tweet made its way onto the feed earlier today. It’s a real LaughSob moment because history could very well repeat itself for very different reasons:
“As a German, I just want to get this straight. The entire Western world wants us to build up a huge army, march through Poland and fight the Russians if necessary. Just writing it down so there are no misunderstandings in the future…”
I mean, what could possibly go wrong?
Trade Wars, Nothing but Trade Wars Up North and South
Despite thinking that things were going well enough to just put an indefinite pause on the tariffs, the insurrectionist is going forward with his trade war against Canada and Mexico. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded with tariffs in response.
Here’s an excerpt of Trudeau’s statement:
“Canada will not let this unjustified decision go unanswered. Should American tariffs come into effect tonight, Canada will, effective 12:01 a.m. EST tomorrow, respond with 25 per cent tariffs against $155 billion of American goods – starting with tariffs on $30 billion worth of goods immediately, and tariffs on the remaining $125 billion on American products in 21 days’ time. Our tariffs will remain in place until the U.S. trade action is withdrawn, and should U.S. tariffs not cease, we are in active and ongoing discussions with provinces and territories to pursue several non-tariff measures. While we urge the U.S. administration to reconsider their tariffs, Canada remains firm in standing up for our economy, our jobs, our workers, and for a fair deal.”
I don’t know who is advising the convicted felon but Trudeau is clearly smarter than any of the felon’s advisers. The felon is of this idiotic belief that tariffs only impact foreign countries. No, they are basically a tax on American importers and the consumers who end up paying the costs. As Trudeau says:
“Because of the tariffs imposed by the U.S., Americans will pay more for groceries, gas, and cars, and potentially lose thousands of jobs. Tariffs will disrupt an incredibly successful trading relationship. They will violate the very trade agreement that was negotiated by President Trump in his last term.”
Don’t think it ends with Canada, Mexico, and China. He threatened the EU a few days ago and they pushed back in response.
The EU estimates that the trade volume between both sides stands at about $1.5 trillion, representing around 30% of global trade. Trump has complained about a trade deficit, but while the bloc has a substantial export surplus in goods, the EU says that is partly offset by the U.S. surplus in the trade of services.
The EU says that trade in goods reached 851 billion euros ($878 billion) in 2023, with a trade surplus of 156 billion euros ($161 billion) for the EU. Trade in services was worth 688 billion euros ($710 billion) with a trade deficit of 104 billion euros ($107 billion) for the EU.
As for Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, we’ll learn her plans on Tuesday.
Project 2025
Rep. John Rose (R-TN) revealed what we’ve known all along: the felon was always associated with Project 2025.
“How do you think the President was prepared to issue all these executive orders? How do you think they were prepared to make all of these appointments in such quick succession after he got into office? Project 2025,” Rose said.
Until next time.
