Transgender Healthcare Is At Stake
Standing against gov't threats to ban transgender healthcare
My morning is barely even a few hours old and I’ve learned that the racist and sexist convicted man child is intent on shutting down the government unless Democrats agree to one of the cruelest things ever: banning all transgender healthcare. Not just gender-affirming care for transgender youth, but transgender adults, too.
Any Democrat that goes along with this will be complicit in some of the worst hatred to ever come out of Washington, DC. I cannot even begin to tell you what losing access to gender-affirming care will mean to transgender Americans. If this happens, I think it’s safe to say that it will kill many Americans. Without access to hormones, trans Americans will grow depressed and it will only get worse from there.
This cannot happen. We, as Americans, cannot make discrimination the rule of law. America is supposed to be the bastion of freedom and liberty. But this administration is choosing to turn its back on America’s founding principles by going all in on fascist authoritarianism.
Republicans like to campaign on reading the U.S. Constitution. I’d like to remind them what it says in Section 1 of the 14th Amendment:
All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
This government doesn’t care about lowering the costs of groceries. It only cares about remaking America in a xenophobic image. They care about hatred and betraying every single value that America is supposed to stand for. Who in the right mind would shut down the federal government over transgender rights. Not any real American leaders. That much I know. You have to be a crazed lunatic or suffering from dementia to do something like this.
My passport does not expire until the end of December 2026. I really do not want to move and not just because it would make it nearly impossible to do my job. I love the idea of America, but not the current administration. I won’t be silenced, nor will I be complicit in their hatred and shredding of American democracy. I will continue speaking out against this hatred.
