Top Gun: Maverick - The Hype is Real
The hype started for Top Gun: Maverick immediately after the world premiere screening during CinemaCon.
My full review will not run until May 25 but let me tell you, the hype is real. Going into the film, The Batman had been my #1 film of the year. After exiting the screening, Top Gun: Maverick moved into the slot. It’s a film that soars high on nostalgia while introducing us to some new characters along the way.
Top Gun isn’t the only major property fueling nostalgia this month. We started with the launch of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds during the first week of the month. This weekend sees the launch of the surprise hit film of the summer on Disney+, Chip ’n Dale: Rescue Rangers. I had so much fun watching the new film upon screening it on Thursday night. It’s got all the right ingredients. Robert Zemeckis will probably never make a sequel to Who Framed Roger Rabbit so this is as close as it gets to a spiritual sequel. Disney+ will launch Obi-Wan Kenobi on the same day that Top Gun: Maverick is released in theaters. Plan your weekend accordingly!
