That Was A Month
I realize it’s been a few weeks since my last update. However, Sundance kept me busy with a number of films and I’ve been rather busy on the Whoopi Goldberg front. If there’s one article I’ve written that you need to read, please make it this one.
I haven’t published all of my Sundance coverage just yet. If a film already has a distributor, I’m going to wait before running a review. I feel that it won’t really help a film if I cover in January or early February unless they are really looking for a distributor. There were some reviews that I ran and a distributor was announced shortly thereafter. Roadside Attractions and Vertical Entertainment combined to acquire Emily the Criminal. Let me tell you that Aubrey Plaza has a new career-best on the books. If the studio plays it right, we’re looking at a Best Actress nomination!
During the second week of Sundance, I took a few breaks. One for the Baseball Hall of Fame election coverage and the other for Holocaust Remembrance Day. I ended up watching four films that were released over the years by the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s film division, Moriah Films. The one that I found the most interesting was Against the Tide because when it came to learning about the Holocaust, I had never heard of Peter Bergson. It turns out that he challenged the American Jewish Establishment for not doing enough. The film was released in 2009 and until I added my review, not a single review had been posted on the Rotten Tomatoes page.
